# Acceptable Use Policy

> Rules governing the use of iCodeSchool Alpharetta devices, accounts, networks, software, and technology services.

# Acceptable Use Policy

**iCodeSchool Alpharetta** provides computers, devices, accounts, network access, software, and related technology to support learning, coding, instruction, and approved educational activities.

By accessing or using an iCodeSchool Alpharetta-managed device, account, network, or other technology resource, you agree to comply with this policy and with other applicable iCodeSchool rules.

  iCodeSchool-managed technology is **not a personal computing environment**. Activity performed on iCodeSchool-owned or managed devices and networks may be filtered, logged, monitored, reviewed, or investigated for security, safety, troubleshooting, policy enforcement, or other legitimate operational purposes.

  You should **not expect personal privacy** when using iCodeSchool technology.

## 1. Device ownership and control

The computer or device you are using is provided and managed by **iCodeSchool Alpharetta**.

These devices are intended for:

* Classes and instruction
* Coding and programming
* Assignments and projects
* Approved educational activities
* Other activities specifically authorized by iCodeSchool staff

These devices are **not personal computers**. They should not be treated as personal property or used primarily for personal activities.

  iCodeSchool may configure, update, reset, restrict, replace, or otherwise modify managed devices when necessary for security, maintenance, troubleshooting, inventory, or operational purposes.

## 2. Technology management and monitoring

iCodeSchool uses third-party technology providers to help administer, secure, and manage its technology environment.

Depending on the configuration of the applicable system, information processed by filtering or monitoring technology may include:

* Websites and domains accessed
* Attempts to access restricted websites
* Search activity
* Filtering events
* Security events
* Technical information associated with network activity

    Monitoring does **not** necessarily mean that a person is watching every action in real time.

    No guarantee is made that clearing local browser history, deleting files, or closing applications will remove records that may already exist in network, security, filtering, or device-management systems.

### ManageEngine

ManageEngine Mobile Device Management (MDM) may be used to administer and secure managed devices.

Depending on the applicable device configuration, iCodeSchool may use device-management functionality to:

* Configure device settings
* Apply security policies
* Manage applications
* Install or remove approved software
* Enforce restrictions
* Monitor device-management status
* Restrict device access
* Lock or secure devices when appropriate
* Assist with lost or compromised devices

## 3. Privacy and information handling

### No expectation of personal privacy

You should **not expect personal privacy** when using an iCodeSchool-owned or iCodeSchool-managed computer, account, or network.

iCodeSchool may process technical information and activity information associated with the operation, security, maintenance, and administration of its technology environment.

Information may be reviewed when reasonably necessary for purposes including:

* Security investigations
* Troubleshooting
* Protection of users and systems
* Investigation of suspected policy violations
* Enforcement of iCodeSchool policies
* Protection of confidential or proprietary information
* Compliance with applicable legal or regulatory requirements
* Response to valid legal process

  **Do not place information on an iCodeSchool device that you would require to remain completely private.**

### Important distinction

## 4. Acceptable use

When using iCodeSchool technology, you are expected to:

  * Keep passwords and authentication information private.
  * Sign out of accounts when finished.
  * Protect account and file information.
  * Treat devices and equipment responsibly.

  * Use respectful and appropriate language online.
  * Follow applicable laws and iCodeSchool policies.

  **When in doubt, ask before accessing, installing, downloading, or changing something.**

## 5. Restricted activities

The following activities are prohibited unless specifically authorized for an iCodeSchool educational or business purpose.

### Social media and messaging

Do not use iCodeSchool devices for personal social-media or messaging activities, including services such as:

  An instructor may authorize access to a normally restricted website or service when access is genuinely required for a class, assignment, project, or other approved activity.

### Games and entertainment

Do not use iCodeSchool devices for:

* Personal gaming
* Unauthorized game launchers
* Streaming entertainment unrelated to iCodeSchool activities
* Cryptocurrency mining
* Other activities unrelated to authorized iCodeSchool work

### Unauthorized software

Do not install or use software, browser extensions, scripts, or other tools without authorization.

This includes software designed to:

* Circumvent security controls
* Modify device-management settings
* Bypass web filtering
* Obtain unauthorized administrator access
* Establish unauthorized remote access

## 6. Security and filtering

You must not attempt to bypass, disable, interfere with, or defeat iCodeSchool security controls.

Examples include:

* VPNs used to bypass restrictions
* Proxies
* Unauthorized DNS services
* Tunnels
* Browser-based bypass services
* Booting unauthorized operating systems
* Unauthorized administrator accounts
* Other methods intended to evade security or monitoring controls

  **Do not attempt to disable or remove Linewize, ManageEngine, antivirus software, security policies, device-management agents, or other security controls.**

Security testing or security research may only be performed when explicitly authorized by iCodeSchool staff.

## 7. Accounts and credentials

Your iCodeSchool account and credentials must be protected.

You must not:

* Share your password with other users.
* Use another person's account.
* Attempt to obtain another person's credentials.
* Bypass authentication or multi-factor authentication.
* Access another person's files or information without authorization.
* Leave an authenticated account accessible to another user.

## 8. Files, downloads, and software

iCodeSchool devices should not be used as personal storage.

Do not download or store:

* Pirated or illegally obtained material
* Malware
* Unauthorized software
* Large collections of personal media
* Content that violates iCodeSchool policies

Files stored on managed devices may be removed during device maintenance, security remediation, account cleanup, or device resets.

## 9. Respectful and lawful behavior

Technology must not be used to:

* Harass, threaten, or bully another person
* Access another person's information without authorization
* Distribute malware
* Commit fraud or impersonation
* Damage or disrupt systems
* Violate copyright or other intellectual-property rights
* Access illegal content
* Conduct unauthorized security testing
* Violate applicable laws or iCodeSchool policies

## 10. Security incidents

Report security problems as soon as possible.

Examples include:

* Restricting or suspending device access
* Removing unauthorized software
* Resetting or reconfiguring a device
* Restricting an account
* Notifying a parent or guardian when applicable
* Referring the matter to iCodeSchool administration
* Taking other action permitted by applicable policies or law

### Activity may be used in investigations

Information generated through the use of iCodeSchool-managed technology may be reviewed and may be used as evidence during investigations or disciplinary proceedings, **where permitted by applicable law and policy**.

  Clearing browser history, deleting files, uninstalling applications, or closing an application does not guarantee that previously generated network, security, filtering, or device-management records will be deleted.

## 12. Educational exceptions

Some websites, applications, and services may normally be restricted but may be approved for a legitimate educational purpose.

## 13. Privacy, children, and student information

iCodeSchool may provide services to students of different ages and may work with schools, families, or other educational organizations.

Privacy obligations can depend on the services provided, the information collected, the age of the student, and iCodeSchool's contractual or operational relationship with a school or organization.
